I. Overview and Rationale

 

            The theme of this unit is “Leaping from Tadpoles to Frogs". This theme is appropriate for children at the second grade level.Second graders will enjoy learning about this slimy animal that they see in backyard ponds. The unit will encompass a total of four weeks.

            During the unit students will explore topics, such as; frog parts, habitat and life cycle. Science, English Language Arts, mathematics, social studies and technology will be addressed during the unit. Students will develop skills such as, reading various books on the topic, viewing different web pages and learning through worksheets.

             For the culminating project the students will create a frog character and discuss the frog’s life cycle from a tadpole to a frog. Students will have to have the frog in the story in an appropriate environment and provide sketches to coincide with the story. The final project will be assessed with a rubric.

  • What is the life cycle of tadpole to a frog?
  • What is needed for a healthy frog habitat?
